"A little bit steep": Jetstar passenger hit with "wild" excess baggage fee

A Jetstar passenger has been slapped with a "wild" excess baggage fee after her luggage was less than just one kilogram overweight.

Monique McCreanor was flying from Melbourne to Sydney after competing in a fitness competition when she was hit with the unexpected fees.

Travelling with only carry-on luggage, Ms. McCreanor said she made a mad dash to the airport to catch her flight, only to be stopped at the gate due to the weight of her bag.

Because of the prizes she won at the competition, her bag was just 900g over the 7kg limit, and she was issued a $75 fine.

Ms. McCreanor took to TikTok to share a warning with other travellers to triple check the weight of your bag, as even being over the limit by mere grams will set you back.

“This isn’t a complaint, this is merely just warning you guys,” she said in the clip.

“If you do fly with Jetstar on a domestic flight, and your bag is even 100g overweight, you’re going to get charged $75 at the gate for that excess luggage."

“Now, this kind of sucks, because I’m like damn, I could have had 15kg in this bag to really make it worthwhile."

“I got hit with $75, so just make sure are booking the extra checked baggage, it is better to be safe than sorry, because $75 is a little bit steep for just 900g overweight.”

While her video quickly garnered thousands of views, many were left divided in the comments about her complaints.

One person sided with the airline, saying, “No sorry, it clearly gives a weight allowance. You went over, you pay.”

“Seriously it doesn’t matter who you are with, you will have to pay any way, they are the rules,” another added.

Others were quick to empathise, sharing their own experience of encountering excess baggage fees.

“They did this to me on my honeymoon... I was p****d,” one person said.

“Let’s share it”: Karl’s wild idea to save the Brisbane Olympics

Karl Stefanovic has become the unlikely face of a good idea, pitching a revolutionary way to save the Brisbane Olympics from disaster.

The 2032 games will be the first time Australia has hosted the event since Sydney in 2000, with hundreds of thousands of people expected to make the pilgrimage to the sunshine state to watch their favourite sports.

Despite the building excitement for the games, the Queensland government has copped backlash in recent weeks over the preparations for the event, after Premier Steven Miles announced he would bin a $3.4 billion plan to build a new inner-city stadium in Victoria Park in time for the Olympics.

Instead, the premier plans to use the exisiting Suncorp Stadium to host the opening and closing ceremonies, while the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre will host the athletics events.

Today host and Brisbane native Karl Stefanovic has labelled the plan as a “seismic international embarrassment” and in a strange turn of events, even offered up a good suggestion for how to fix it.

“So how about we share the Olympics across the country, opening ceremonies in all the major already existing stadiums, events split among world-class facilities and the rest of the events showcasing this great country to the world,” he said.

“We’ll have the triathlon on the Gold Coast, the cycling in Far North Queensland, the surfing at Bells Beach, the marathon past Uluru, the shooting in Longreach, it could be a magnificent two-week tourism ad for this country, leaving a legacy that’s cheaper."

“Our athletes deserve the very best, so if Queensland can’t do it, let’s share it. ”

It seems Karl isn't the only one up in arms over the decision to not build a new stadium, as a group of high-profile Aussie Olympians penned an open letter to the premier, imploring him to "revisit the decision".

The letter states, "We all remember the magnificent event that Sydney put on in 2000. Queensland deserves something equally spectacular, without a centrepiece that would reek of compromise."

The letter was signed by 14 current and former Australian Olympians including Grant Hackett, Sally Pearson, Leisel Jones and more.

Police share wild seatbelt pic after fining driver for bizarre DIY fix

A driver has copped a $387 fine over their bizarre seatbelt fix during a random stationary test at Richmond in Sydney's northwest.

A photo shared by NSW Police Traffic and Highway Patrol showed the shocking state of the driver's seatbelt, which was tattered and held together by duct tape.

The police department have warned other drivers to make sure their seatbelts are in good condition, otherwise they too might cop a fine and demerit points.

"Seatbelts help to save lives, except for this one...." they wrote in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

"Hawkesbury Highway Patrol were recently conducting random stationary testing on Londonderry Road at Richmond when they spoke with a driver about his seatbelt.

"Not only was the seatbelt not being worn, an inspection of the seatbelt found it to be dangerously defective," they added.

"He was issued a defect notice and infringement in the amount of $387 and three demerit points. Please ensure your seatbelts don't look like this."

Many commenters were baffled as to how the vehicle passed the eSafety check, also known as a pink slip inspection, which is required for vehicles over five years old in NSW to be deemed roadworthy.

"And who passed the Pink Slip? That’s where I’d be heading," one wrote.

"I wonder who did the rego check on this vehicle," another added.

"How does it even get to that stage," a third questioned, while others agreed that the seatbelt was no longer safe.

Images: Getty / Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, NSW Police Force

Love-struck elephant goes wild on safari

In the annals of adventure, there are tales of bravery and resilience – and then there are tales of two guys just trying to find a quiet spot for a bathroom break in South Africa.

Meet Henry Blom and Taylor Fulmer, the unlikely protagonists of a safari gone haywire. Innocently disembarking from their tour truck for a brief moment of relief in the bush, the pair suddenly found themselves smack dab in the middle of a romantic rampage by none other than a love-stricken bull elephant.

As screams echoed through the savannah, Henry and Taylor found themselves in a bizarre game of hide and seek with a pachyderm-sized opponent. "We got off the truck with a bunch of other people to use the bathrooms and then we started hearing screaming," Henry recounted on the Today show, probably wishing they had all decided to hold it in a little longer.

But it wasn't just any elephant causing the ruckus. No, this was one amorous elephant on a mission – sweating, urinating and emitting more bodily fluids than a broken faucet.

As the wild beast charged, Henry and Taylor feared for their lives, imagining scenarios straight out of an action movie where they'd be the unlucky extras squashed beneath a mammoth-sized villain.

Yet, amid the chaos, there emerged a hero: the tour guide. While the elephant treated the truck like a chew toy, the guide maintained a Zen-like calm, steering the vehicle with the finesse of a seasoned race car driver dodging obstacles. "We saw the elephant charge and my fear was that it was going to go through the window," Taylor recounted, possibly wondering if he should've packed a spare pair of pants for the trip.

As the dust settled and the elephant's romantic pursuit waned, Henry and Taylor breathed a sigh of relief. But their ordeal wasn't over just yet. The guide's sage advice? "Stay quiet and get ready to run."

Words of wisdom to live by, especially when you're in the crosshairs of a loved-up elephant.

Reflecting on their brush with danger, Henry and Taylor couldn't help but marvel at the surreal experience. "He was so close we could smell him, it was crazy," Henry mused, perhaps understating the olfactory assault they endured.

So, the next time you're contemplating a safari adventure, remember Henry and Taylor's tale of bathroom breaks gone wild. Because when nature calls in the wild, you might just find yourself in the midst of an elephant love story – and trust us, it's not as romantic as it sounds.

Images: The Today Show

Stevie Nicks faces wild backlash over Hawaii fires post

Stevie Nicks, the celebrated icon from Fleetwood Mac, has drawn a mixed response among her admirers due to her extensive reflection on the Maui fires, with even her most devoted supporters not hesitating to express their concerns.

The legendary artist took to social media to convey her thoughts regarding the tragic Maui fires, a subject close to her heart. However, her detailed account of how the catastrophe impacted her, particularly in relation to her niece's disrupted holiday plans, has drawn a divisive reaction.

In a post entitled "“Lahaina is not gone ~ It is just away,” Nicks opened up about her personal connection to the coastal town that fell victim to the destructive fires, claiming the lives of at least 96 individuals.

“As I am sure you have heard – the island, Maui, where I own a house I have been staying at since the 80s – and the small village, city, most magical place on earth, Lahaina, burned to the ground over the last few days,” she wrote.

She further explained the distressing situation involving her young niece, her spouse, and their child, who had just embarked on a much-needed vacation before the niece's return to her studies in psychology. Regrettably, their vacation was cut short due to the onset of the fire.

Nicks also delved into the profound connection that the members of Fleetwood Mac share with Maui. “This island, in so many ways, defines Fleetwood Mac and me and our families. My truth was that I wanted a house here just so I could spend time in Lahaina walking the streets; visiting the art galleries – sitting on the rock wall – Most all the opals I wear on my fingers came from a store on Front Street. I hope the sweet lady who owned that store was able to grab all her opals and run. Some voiced disappointment with Nicks for placing emphasis on her niece's disrupted vacation rather than the tragic loss of nearly 100 lives in the fires. They also questioned the absence of any links or information directing her substantial Instagram following, which numbers 1.4 million, towards aiding the fire survivors.

One Instagram user commented, “I’ve been a Stevie fan forever and a day but this is Completely tone deaf! There are people who have LOST THEIR HOMES, their livelihood and their loved ones. Regular people – not rich, and not tourists. “Ruining” someone’s well deserved holiday is the absolutely LEAST of it all. True colours are shining and it’s such a disappointment.”

While detractors were vocal, others stood up for Nicks, contending that her personal connection to the island warranted her sharing her story just as much as anyone else – with one post in particular offering a particularly insightful explanation:

"People commenting with criticism: I sincerely understand but what you don’t realize is that this is a woman who doesn’t go on the internet or understand how any of that works. She hand writes these notes to express her heart and has an assistant post them. She has always given back without advertising it. The concept of crowdfunding donations on social media is something she really just has no idea about. If she knew better, I could understand the frustration but she’s just not a part of social media discourse whatsoever. I can guarantee that she is not only giving back but reaching directly out to individuals she has crossed paths with there over the years. Stevie has always been charitable, but has never been a citizen of the internet."

Images: Instagram

Jackie O’s hilarious walk of shame after wild Logies all nighter

Jackie O didn’t let her 5am start time stop her from partying all night at the Logies afterparty even if that meant she had to show up to work wearing last night’s dress.

In a hilarious video uploaded to Instagram, Jackie O shared behind the scenes footage of what it was like for a celebrity to do the walk of shame into work after a big night out.

The video starts off with her walking down a footpath in her red strapless gown laughing as she said "this is embarrassing".

When someone asked why she was still wearing last night’s dress she sheepishly replied:

“I have not been home, I had the craziest night”.

The radio host shared a bunch of clips from her wild all-nighter, spliced together with time stamps.

She looked like she had a great time, partying with fellow entertainers Grant Denyer and Chris Brown.

At 1:53 am Brown, who was shocked that Jackie was still at the afterparty incredulously asked her: "What the hell are you doing here?"

The radio host replied: “I know, I know,” but she didn’t think too hard about it as she continued to party all night, only leaving when KIIS FM intern Pete Deppeler told her it was 4am.

When she got in the studio, Kyle Sandilands beamed with joy when he saw his co-star and exclaimed: “Oh my god, you’re in the same outfit?”

Jackie O sheepishly repeated the same answer and told him that she hadn’t been home, to which a shocked Kyle replied, “what do you mean you haven’t been home?”

She later explained on the show that she didn’t intend to have a big night out and got carried away with the festivities, all while sober.

"I was planning on leaving straight after I presented that award," she added.

"My car was booked [and] ready to go. Because I was seated next to Sophie Monk and she was at Hamish and Andy's table... and he was up for gold. I couldn't leave... it felt rude to do that."

Images: Instagram

Kyle Sandilands' wild Logies conspiracy theory

Kyle Sandilands has share his wild Logies conspiracy theory, after he was forced to pull out from presenting an award, before being replaced by a famous rival.

The radio shock jock was asked to present the award for Most Outstanding Children's Program while holding his 11-month-old son Otto, but decided against it at the last minute.

On Friday, Kyle told listeners of The Kyle and Jackie O Show he had pulled the pin on the presenting duties after he learned how late the ceremony would go.

"I've had to pull the pin. I've told them to shove it in their a**e, my exact words yesterday," he said.

"My thing was, I had to bring my child out, he's not even one, and it was supposed to be at ten past eight. But they can't guarantee it won't be before 9PM."

"I've got a baby, I can't be waiting around with a baby," he added.

Kyle then said his wife Tegan was not thrilled about him presenting either.

"My wife said, 'What does Otto get out of it? He's just a bit of arm candy for you to get on TV.' And I couldn't agree against it so I told them I'm not going."

After pulling out of the ceremony at the last minute, the Logies gave Kyle's presenting role to his rival Dave Hughes.

On Monday morning, Kyle shared that he thought the Logies were conspiring against him by giving the hosting gig to Hughesy, given their years of rivalry.

"It was a big FU to me from producers to bring Hughesy on," Sandilands said.

"I don't think there was an FU from producers," argued his co-host Jackie O. " I think they were just trying to replace you in time [for the show]."

Hughesy later explained he thought Kyle would take his joke in good humour and that he even considered telling him about his material beforehand.

He said, "I saw him before the show and I was almost going to tell him what I was going to say but I didn't. I should have because he wasn't happy."

Although even Sandilands had some kind words for his radio rival on Monday morning, conceding Hughes "was quite funny" during his presenting stint at Sunday night's award show.

Disturbing footage of dingo attacks revealed

Disturbing footage of dingo attacks have been released by rangers following multiple attacks in a popular camping spot that occurred just weeks apart.

Tourists have been warned to be wary of the wild animals after shocking footage emerged of a tourist being nipped while sunbathing.

The video comes just weeks before a 10-year-old boy was attacked and dragged underwater by a dingo at K’gari Island – formerly known as Fraser Island – on June 16.

The boy sustained puncture wounds to his shoulder and bruises to his collarbone because of the accident, which happened in front of a popular camping spot on the island.

“The boy’s 12-year-old-sister who was nearby reacted quickly and ran to assist him,” Assistant principal ranger Danielle Mansfield said.

“The family treated the boy for puncture wounds to his shoulder and arms and scratches and bruises on his collarbone and arm.”

Mansfield also said that rangers were closely monitoring the dingo responsible for the attack, which had blood splatters across its face and paws following the attack, although there are currently no plans to euthanise it.

Two months ago, a similar attack occurred where a primary school-aged girl was hospitalised following a dingo attack while swimming. The girl suffered bites to her head and fingers after the dingo attempted to drag her underwater.

Rangers have also released dashcam footage of another dingo chasing a young boy and an adult male, in an area close to where the 10-year-old boy was attacked, just two weeks before the unfortunate incident.

The dingo was euthanised for “poor behaviour”.

This comes a few weeks after another dingo was euthanised following a string of attacks, including a sunbathing tourist, a seven-year-old boy and a 42-year-old woman.

Dingoes are native to K’gari Island, but a few of them fail to show any wariness towards people, and are increasingly brazen as a result of people deliberately or unintentionally feeding them, rangers said.

“We have increased patrols in the region to monitor the wongari’s (dingo’s) behaviour and pass on dingo-safe messaging to campers and visitors,” Mansfield said.

“These animals are capable of inflicting serious harm, and they have bitten children and adults, and some are quite brazen and are not fleeing when yelled at or when someone brandishes a stick.”

“People think it won’t happen to them, but it can happen to anyone and that’s why rangers are providing dingo-safe information to as many people as possible,” she added.

“We don’t want any incidents on K’gari, and people must understand that dingoes are wild animals and should never be fed or interacted with.”

Images: Queensland Department of Environment and Science / News.com.au

"Forgotten pizza cook" Pete Evans' wild new look

Former Seven personality Pete Evans has made an unexpected appearance on social media, though many took a moment longer than usual to realise who it was they were looking at in the clip.

The former chef and My Kitchen Rules judge was a far cry from the polished persona audiences had come to expect from his days at the helm of the hit cooking competition, roaming through an outdoor kitchen in a ‘Food is Medicine’ t-shirt and unexpected mullet cut.

The footage marked a new chapter in Evans’ public fall from grace, and as one account sharing the content wrote, it had “captured a quick raw video of the set up” for a cooking retreat with eight guests and “approx 25 recipes”.

It did provide some insight into Evans’ new ‘career’ path, with the chef having turned his back on the entertainment industry in 2020, after 11 years as a household name hosting My Kitchen Rules.

His controversial opinions on health - and his mounting support in conspiracy theories as well as his non-scientifics views - had initially turned attention his way, but it was his take on the global COVID-19 pandemic that sealed his fate.

Also in 2020, Evans received a $25,000 fine from the TGA for his part in peddling a $15,000 ‘Biocharger’ device with the incorrect claim that it could combat the coronavirus.

Evans was quickly removed from social media - namely Facebook and Instagram - for spreading misinformation during the pandemic, and lost 15 different sponsors in just 38 hours after sharing a meme that contained a neo-Nazi symbol with his remaining followers. It was estimated that the latter act alone could cost Evans millions of dollars.

In the time since, Evans has purchased a $1 million tourist ‘healing’ retreat close to Byron Bay, where he offers the likes of ‘fasting retreats’ - charging $2250 a head for a “5-day juice, water, and froth fast” with Evans.

When news of the venture broke on social media, opinion poured in thick and fast, with most condemning the experience.

However, it wasn’t enough to keep Evans from returning to the internet, with the 50-year-old launching his presence on the alternative platform, Telegram, where he shares the likes of detail on his retreats, his experience with bitcoin, anti-vaccination takes, and right-wing political opinion.

As one user wrote in response - and on behalf of the majority - to the fresh footage of the disgraced chef, “I won’t have what he’s having”.

Obviously vaccines are bad. Not ‘licking toads’ though. That’s cool. Forgotten pizza cook Pete Evans continues to have a normal one. @krunchymoses @petesscience pic.twitter.com/a5fDzGIups

— Cam (@camliveshere) June 2, 2023

“This is a hard second-hand cringe,” one said.

“And here I was thinking that scone of his couldn't get any more offensive,” another said. “I was wrong.”

“So funny, and sad at same time hope he is ok,” one wrote, “but I have had 4 vax, travelled [the] world twice in ]the last 12 months, kept a good job and have healthy friends and fam around me. Pete's approach hmmmm”.

And as someone else pointed out., “he seems quite short of breath after placing a few small sticks under the pizza oven. Not a great advert for his lifestyle.”

Images: Twitter, Facebook

Jackie O responds to wild rumour following divorce and massive weight loss

Jackie O has responded to rumours that she will appear on The Bachelorette following her 18 kg weight loss and divorce.

Speaking on The Kyle and Jackie O show on Tuesday morning, the radio host was quick to shut down the rumours after her co-star Kyle Sandilands poked fun at her alleged new gig.

“Congratulations on your new TV gig,” Kyle cheekily remarked.

“That's all untrue Kyle. That's bulls**t. No, I'm not doing that,” Jackie O immediately quipped back.

“That's great, because I wouldn't have been happy about that,” Kyle replied, and then went on to say why Jackie O was too good for the show.

“I put you up on a pedestal. You are a great woman that has achieved amazing things in your life, [you] raised a great daughter... And you're an award-winning, wonderful friend,” he said.

On their Wednesday show, Jackie O shut down the rumours further by saying that no amount of money would have convinced her to go on the show.

She confirmed that the Channel 10 producers begged her to appear on the dating show, but has firmly said no, because she didn’t want to be around a “bunch of gronks”.

“It came through my manager and I said "absolutely not". No way would I ever do something like that. It is great for your entertainment, but what about me,' she said.

She also hinted that the producers were willing to pay her anything she wanted, hinting at a possible $300k salary, which is the same amount her friend, Sophie Monk, got paid.

“They asked how much would it cost. Nothing, I wouldn't do it. I would just not do it. Not the Bachelorette. They are just making TV in the end and you are just going to get gronks, get weirdos... I just don't think it is for me,” she justified.

This comes after Woman’s Day magazine alleged that Jackie had signed up to the franchise in hopes of finding the right one on Monday.

Images: Youtube

"No-one is above the law": Pauline Hanson weighs in on wild Lidia Thorpe CCTV footage

Pauline Hanson has urged police to investigate the moment Greens senator Lidia Thorpe lost control outside a strip club in Melbourne last weekend.

Senator Thorpe was captured on CCTV as she became embroiled in a verbally abusive argument with a stranger in the early hours of the morning as she filmed bystanders from the door of a taxi.

The One Nation senator said she wants Victoria Police to investigate the matter to see if Senator Thorpe broke the law during her tirade.

“I think Victoria police should be carefully examining that footage to determine if Senator Thorpe has broken the law,” Senator Hanson said.

“The Australian Human Rights Commission might also consider examining the footage for possible breaches of Section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act. I think the people subjected to her abuse on the weekend should come forward and see that she is held accountable, because the Senate has shown it’s too gutless to do so.”

“No one – least of all an elected representative of the people – is above the law.”

Ms Hanson went on to say that Ms Thorpe was not an appropriate representative for Victorians.

“Many Victorians would be asking if Senator Thorpe had any intentions of fairly representing them in Canberra given her obvious contempt for parliament and for those Australians who do not share her Aboriginal heritage, and even her contempt for those who do share Aboriginal her heritage but not her views,” she said.

“That contempt is on full display in this footage and has been during incidents in which she has verbally attacked Aboriginal elders, or protested at public events, and even when she has spoken on the floor of the Senate.”

Hey Melbourne, Australia:
How did someone like Lidia Thorpe get into parliament? 🧐 pic.twitter.com/w8VT9tCbjF

— Meanwhile in Melbourne (@meanwhileinau) April 16, 2023

The incident, which occurred outside a strip club at 3 am and was captured in its entirety on CCTV, clearly shows Senator Thorpe circling a group of men waiting outside the club before pointing her finger at them and shouting about the size of their genitalia.

In the confrontation, Senator Thorpe can also be seen walking up to a man with his back to the wall of Maxine’s Gentleman’s Club before shouting abuse.

Ms Thorpe has now been banned for life from the Brunswick strip club, as manager David Ross told news.com.au that he had now formally banned the politician in a letter that was sent to her office.

Julia Faustyna takes DNA test to prove wild identity claims

Julia Faustyna, the Polish woman who is convinced she is the missing Madeleine McCann, has reportedly taken a DNA test to prove her claim.

However, in a stunning twist to the tale, Faustyna’s private investigation with spokesperson Dr Fia Johansson has led the young woman to consider the possibility that she may actually be another missing child - Livia Schepp, who went missing with her twin sister in Switzerland in 2011.

“I’ve spoken to her about this and she is open to the fact she could be any missing child out there,” Dr Johansson said while speaking to The Sun. “Not just Madeleine. Julia wants to know the truth about who she is.”

While Faustyna’s main argument has involved the physical similarities between herself and Madeleine McCann, one of the pivotal points in her story is how she recognised a suspect from McCann’s case - a man she has named as her own abuser.

“One of the reasons she made the connection to Madeleine is because one of the suspects in Madeleine’s case looks very much like a man who she says abused her as a child,” Dr Johansson explained. “But the same man could be connected to Madeleine and other missing children, this is how predators and traffickers work.”

“Julia has taken a DNA test,” she confirmed, “and we are investigating if it’s possible to check her DNA with that of [the] missing Livia. We are investigating all possibilities at this stage.”

Livia Schepp - and her twin sister Alessia - went missing when they were six, after their father abducted them from Switzerland in 2011. Days later, he took his own life in Italy, and when police discovered the body, the twins were nowhere to be seen.

Faustyna, who claims to have post-traumatic amnesia due to sexual abuse in her childhood, lacks clear recollection of her formative years, and has stated while she can recall holidays, she doesn’t “recall my mother being there, for example, or my stepfather, much less my dad.”

Whether or not any of Faustyna’s theories are true, the public will have to keep speculating, as no results have yet been shared.

However, Faustyna’s viral “@iammadeleinemccan”, where she was sharing updates and side-by-side comparisons with her followers, has since been deleted from the platform.

The removal coincides with reports of the DNA test, and after Faustyna closed both her Facebook and Tiktok accounts, disputing her parent’s claim that she was only in this for attention when she said “if you don’t like me, please unfollow. I don’t want fans or followers.”

Images: Instagram, Twitter

Waleed Aly halts co-host Kate Langbroek’s wild conspiracy take

Waleed Aly is no stranger to making headlines for his work on The Project, but a debate with co-host Kate Langbroek has brought him back for perhaps the most bizarre reason yet.

On Tuesday night, Langbroek argued the merits of those who believe that walkable 15-minute cities are, as described by those deepest in the conspiracy, “a cynical ploy by climate obsessed autocracies bent on control”.

Conspiracy theorists are under the impression that the concept of a 15-minute city is actually a ploy for government control, and though that couldn’t be further from the truth, Kate Langbroek had plenty to say about it.

As RMIT’s Associate Professional in International Planning Marco Amati explained, “the 15 minute city is actually about getting people to - or enabling basically - walking and active travel to shops, schools, and basically places that they want to go.

“Many Australian cities face a challenge of how to create community, how to build walkable suburbs really quickly, so that they are as liveable and as enjoyable as inner-city areas.”

As the show’s summary on the topic came to an end, Langbroek mused, “mm, you know I love a conspiracy.”

When asked if the panel believed in this one, she said “I don’t know about you, but I have been locked down by governments recently.”

Langbroek was likely referencing the COVID-19 lockdowns across Australia in recent years, something that experts worldwide may have something to do with the traction this particular conspiracy has gained across the globe.

“So, I’m like, it’s kind of an easy thing to go ‘oh, conspiracy theorists’, however, let us just remember that in the 16 hundreds, a guy called Galileo was put in jail and I think died in jail because he said the Earth went around the sun,” she went on.

“Oh, well, that’s that then!” Aly responded.

“Okay,” Langbroek said, “well, because that at the time was considered to be heresy, and now we know it to be the truth.”

“That’s not a conspiracy,” Waleed pointed out.

“It was then, Waleed!” Langbroek argued.

“What was the conspiracy?”

“The conspiracy was that what he believed was wrong, what he was telling people was wrong.”

While Aly acknowledged that he heard what she was saying and could see where she was coming from with that point, Langbroek had more to say on the matter, cutting him off before he could finish his thought.

“I just feel increasingly like there’s a battle for control of people,” she said. “Clearly. Everywhere you go, there are cameras. Everywhere you go.

“I just don’t think that conspiracy theorists in some cases are that crazy.”

In a desperate bid to defuse the situation, co-host Sarah Harris tried to inject some humour, saying, “but that bird thing’s pretty crazy, right? All birds are robots?”

“I don’t know about all of them, Sarah,” Langbroek powered on, “but I do know birds have got tiny little brains capable of anything.”

“Easily influenced like the sheep,” she said, before emitting an uncanny bleat.

“I guess the case has been made,” Aly answered, before Langbroek went on to ask the panel if they understood why conspiracy theorists are feeling the way they are.

“I get the idea that people are losing trust in the government,” Aly allowed, striving to bring an end to the bizarre conversation. “But the problem is, the logical extension of that, is that any time someone comes up with something that might be a good idea, we’ll just want to kill it because we’ll decide it’s a conspiracy somehow.”

“You agree with me then?” Langbroek asked.

“No,” Aly didn’t miss a beat in stating, “I don’t.”

Images: Network Ten
